L'SM86 è un microfono gelato a condensatore, robusto con caratteristica polare cardioide ed una risposta estesa nella gamma delle alte frequenze. È stato costruito per riprodurre la voce principale in maniera regolare e per resistere alle dure condizioni delle tournée. Il microfono a condensatore SM86 ha un suono da studio, grazie alla sua risposta in frequenza estesa - da 15Hz a 18kHz - e può sopportare un elevato livello di pressione sonora (Max SPL: 147dB). Il supporto antishock a tre punti incorporato riduce al minimo il rumore dovuto alla manipolazione, mentre il filtro anti-pop a due strati riduce il rumore del vento e del respiro. In dotazione: supporto per installazione su asta (A25D), bag per il trasporto (26A13) e adattatore filettato da 5/8" a 3/8" (31A1856).
