Description

Radial X‑Amp is an active, Class‑A Reamper with a balanced XLR input, ¼″ Hi‑Z outputs, level control, ground lift, and polarity inversion. The X‑Amp converts pre-recorded signals, making them compatible with amplifiers and effects chains. The ground lift manages potential ground loops, while the level control ensures a natural tonal and dynamic output.

Radial X-Amp uses an exclusive Class-A circuit optimized for use with guitars and bass. Features include 2 independent ¼” Hi-Z outputs and 1 balanced line-level input with an LED peak indicator. The output level control allows you to manage the signal sent to the two amplifiers, while the second transformer-isolated output helps eliminate hum caused by ground loops. A polarity inversion switch is also present on this output. With Radial X-Amp, you can focus on performance during recording and then sculpt the sound later.

Radial X-Amp Controls and Connections

  • XLR INPUT: +4dB balanced line-level input. Used to receive the signal from your DAW.
  •
  • LIFT: lifts the ground on XLR pin 1
  •
  • POWER: connection for the 15VDC 400mA power supply
  •
  • POWER LED: illuminates automatically when power is connected
  •
  • LEVEL: allows you to adjust the output level
  •
  • CLIP LED: when lit, it means you are overloading the input circuit
  •
  • OUTPUT 1: the buffered output is used to send a signal to your amplifier
  •
  • 180° POLARITY: inverts the phase on output 2
  •
  • OUTPUT 2: the isolated output is used to send a signal to a second amplifier

VIDEO: What is reamping and which Reamp to choose

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Radial X-Amp

What is the difference between X-Amp and JCR?

The X-Amp is active while the JCR is passive. The advantage of the X-Amp is the ability to drive more than one amplifier simultaneously.

How long should the cable be to connect the X-Amp to my amplifiers?

The buffered output of the X-Amp will allow you to use unbalanced cables up to 15 meters; for longer lengths, we recommend using the Radial SGI.

Can I reamp my Hammond organ?

You can reamp any instrument.

How do you reamp a snare or kick drum?

There are a couple of ways to do this. You could perform a simple Reamping process where you take the pre-recorded kick drum and send it through the X-Amp to an amplifier or a series of effects.

What should I do if I get a hum from my system?

Try pressing the LIFT switch. This will eliminate the ground connection between the X-Amp and the guitar amplifier.

I connected two amplifiers together, but the sound is distant and thin?

Your amplifiers may be out of phase. Just press the 180º polarity inversion.

Can I connect a guitar to the XLR input to use the X-Amp as a direct box?

No. The X-Amp's XLR input is line-level, designed to receive pre-recorded audio tracks. You should first connect your guitar to a preamplifier to boost the signal. The Radial JD7, on the other hand, has inputs that allow you to do this.

What is the difference between active Reamping and using a passive approach?

A passive Reamper like the JCR or the ProRMP employs transformers that tend to attenuate the transients of digital recordings. Active Reampers like the X-Amp use buffers that allow you to control levels with greater freedom.

Can I use a passive direct box like JDI or ProDI to record a track for Reamping?

Yes.

Is there a difference between the original blue and new yellow X-Amp versions?

No. We simply changed the exterior color to differentiate it from the J48 direct box.
