The Shure SM4 is a condenser microphone for Home and Project Recording Studios, featuring a cardioid pickup pattern. Made entirely of metal, SM4 adopts specific construction technologies: a 1" dual-diaphragm capsule, electromagnetic interference shielding and an integrated pop filter. The high supported SPL (up to 140dB) and the frequency response from 20Hz to 20kHz make this microphone suitable for vocal recording, acoustic instrument recording, and cabinet miking.

Shure SM4: natural audio, ready for mixing

Equipped with a 1-inch dual-diaphragm capsule, the SM4 performs very well across the frequency spectrum: balanced lows and detailed highs. The uniform cardioid polar pattern provides excellent off-axis noise rejection and a wide "sweet spot" that reduces the proximity effect. 

The unique interference shielding technology provides protection against common wireless device noise and RF interference, such as cell phones, laptops, and Wi-Fi routers. This proprietary system includes an integrated pop filter and a woven mesh Faraday cage that shields the microphone capsule. All these elements combined guarantee maximum performance free of distortion or artifacts.

The Shure SM4 facilitates editing and post-production 

The integrated pop filter significantly reduces plosives, simplifying post-production work, as well as guaranteeing a sound ready for live streaming. Feel free to compress and apply equalization as you wish, without the usual concern of having to deal with the amplification of unwanted audio material. Exceptional flexibility: record vocals and musical instruments

Optimized to capture a wide range of sound sources, from the smoothest vocals to the loudest instruments capable of generating high sound pressure, including drums, guitar amplifiers, and brass. 

Shure SM4: applications and suggested positioning

- Vocals and Spoken Word: 2 to 15cm from the sound source. An additional pop filter is recommended to reduce noise caused by plosive consonants when working very close.

- Acoustic Guitar: 15 to 30cm from the soundhole or from the twelfth fret for a more balanced and natural sound.

- Drums: position it between 1 and 2 meters away, in front of the kick drum or suspended above the cymbals. Of course, consider using additional microphones for greater flexibility during mixing.

- Wind and String Instruments: 30 cm to 2 meters from the source. In the case of an ensemble, place the musicians at the same distance from the microphone.

- Amplifiers (cabinets): place it 2 to 15cm from the cone, facing the center of the speaker for a clear sound or towards the edge for a sweeter sound.
