ROLAND SPD-SX PRO SAMPLING PAD

The Best Sampling Pad Ever

Roland's top-of-the-line sampling pad with nine playable surfaces, eight external trigger inputs, a color display, customizable pad LEDs, internal effects, and much more.

The SPD-SX PRO is the ultimate sampling pad for the most intense performances. With years of live testing and extensive feedback from SPD-S and SPD-SX users, the SPD-SX PRO once again raises the bar. Building on the advanced sample pad technology of its predecessors, the SPD-X-PRO features a large number of professional enhancements, driven by user requests, and is designed to withstand life "on the road." It illuminates even the darkest stages with a large color display and multi-color trigger lights. Expand your setup with more audio inputs, additional trigger inputs, and a dedicated hi-hat control or effects expression pedal. Plus, a generous 32 GB memory, 48 kHz audio playback, even more sensitive and interference-free pads, and a dedicated SPD-SX PRO App for easy kit editing.

Reliability/Durability

Built for Life "On the Road"

Devices that go on stage need to be ready for anything. Since 2011, professional drummers have put the SPD-SX's durability to the test, from small clubs to sold-out stadiums. The SPD-SX PRO continues this tradition, incorporating years of feedback into its new improvements. With customizable LED lighting, a large color screen, and consistently reliable and precise triggering, this incredible instrument is ready to accompany you night after night.

Light It Up: Customizable Pad-Dividing LED Lights

When the lights go down, the PRO lights up. Customizable pad-dividing LEDs and trigger lights allow you to see all nine pads even on the darkest stages—say goodbye to gaffer tape forever! Assign any vertical or horizontal light to one of ten preset colors, or create your own and name it whatever you like. Group kicks, snares, backing tracks, and clicks with their assigned color. Set the horizontal pad lights to always be on, or program them to light up only when you strike the pad, or to dynamically flash with the assigned WAV.

Clearly Visible: Color LCD Screen

Playing in the dark just got easier. The SPD-SX PRO features a large 4.3-inch color screen with backlit function buttons, tabs, and a jog wheel for instant sound selection. The display shows essential real-time information, such as A & B sample layers, WAV sample names, sample playback progress, and more.

Unleash Yourself: Ultra-Responsive Pads

The SPD-SX PRO has nine super-durable pads. The three pads on the upper edge include a revamped sensor structure for improved sensitivity and consistent sound quality when striking the pads, regardless of the mounting angle. Crosstalk protection, meaning interference between pads, has also been increased to prevent accidental triggers of other pads. And if you already own an SPD-SX, the SPD-SX PRO is so similar in size that you can use your existing carry bag and accessories… without having to buy extra devices.

Sound Quality

All the Sounds You Need

The crowd roars. The pressure mounts. You need the right sounds at the right time. The massive 32 GB memory can hold your entire music catalog for multiple shows. With 1,550 internal samples, 200 ready-to-use kits, and balanced outputs, you can put the SPD-SX PRO to work right out of the box. Plus, easily order and find your sounds thanks to sample tags: no more looking for a needle in a haystack.

Let's Dig Deeper: Memory and Sounds

Forget the fear of running out of memory forever. With 32 GB of internal memory, the SPD-SX PRO can hold almost 44 hours of crystal-clear 48 kHz/16-bit stereo audio. And you don't even have to convert your source formats. You can load 48/44.1 kHz WAV, AIFF, and MP3 files with different bit rates, and the SPD-SX PRO automatically converts them to its native 48 kHz/16-bit audio format, saving you a lot of time.

Sending the Signal: Expanded Audio Outputs

The SPD-SX PRO has balanced stereo main outputs on two channels: left and right. Combine them with four freely assignable mono audio outputs to have six individual audio feeds so that each pad can be sent to an output for maximum mixing flexibility. And there's also an assignable stereo headphone output for custom monitoring options.

All Aboard: Preloaded Samples and Sounds

The SPD-SX PRO includes 1,550 high-quality sounds and 200 kits (43 erasable preset kits and 157 user kits). And even in the most intense moments, the SPD-SX PRO's processing power allows you to switch to a new kit without cutting off the sound of the existing one, so as the audio fades at the end of your last played sound, you'll have already changed kits and are ready for the next song in the setlist. Need even more options? Dive into the sample libraries on Roland Cloud and explore an ever-expanding selection of sounds.

Layered Sounds: A/B Layering

It's easy to create custom sound layers when you assign two sounds to one pad. You can assign one sound as the MAIN layer from the pad menu and then select another sample to overlay on your original sample, so you have MAIN and SUB sounds on the same pad. Then you can alternate between the MAIN and SUB layers. There are also separate controls for volume, pitch, attack transient, and release controls for each sound, so you can achieve a perfect blend between layers.

Performance and Production Features

A Creative Force

An unforgettable show requires preparation. The SPD-SX PRO is packed with features that simplify pre-show planning. Download and organize sounds with a dedicated app. Unleash creativity with four effects processors and connect a hi-hat controller or expression pedal. Then add some magic with expanded trigger inputs and the integrated 16-step pad sequencer.

Comprehensive Editing: The Dedicated App

With practically unlimited sounds at your fingertips, you need to stay organized. Using the dedicated SPD-SX PRO App from Roland Cloud, you can easily import audio and edit sounds or playback parameters via USB, from your computer. Drag & drop samples, create kits, adjust settings, and name them on the fly. The same USB connection allows you to send 8 channels of audio and MIDI to your computer for recording with a DAW.

Full Throttle: Expressive Control

With expanded trigger inputs, there are even more performance possibilities at your fingertips… or feet. You can play on up to nineteen surfaces, summing all pads, external trigger inputs, and foot switches. Connect a hi-hat controller, like the Roland VH-10 V-Hi-Hat, and play with the expressiveness of open and closed pedal, or add kick and snare pads to create a mini drum kit. Alternatively, you can connect an expression pedal for real-time effects control while playing.

Maximum Power: Effects and Sidechain

Rely on a vast selection of high-quality processing to enhance and color your sound. Four multi-effects offer everything you need: modulation, distortion, filter effects, delays, and reverbs. And they can be assigned to any pad or external trigger input in each kit. Master compression, equalization, and other effects are also available to process the overall output. We've also included sidechain compression, to ensure that the kick and other more intense sounds are not obscured in the mix.

Make a Connection: Inputs for Easy Mixing

On-stage mixing has never been easier, with a balanced stereo main output and four balanced direct outputs. Connect up to eight single-zone mono triggers, or four stereo triggers with separate sounds for head and rim. With external dual trigger, hi-hat, and footswitch inputs, you have a total of 19 different playable surfaces.

Line Them Up: 16-Step Pad Sequencer

Prepare your performance even better with the integrated 16-step pad sequencer. Assign 2 to 16 steps to a pad within each kit. Then coordinate the playback of different pads in your chosen sequence. There's no need to remember where each sound is on the pads: once programmed, hitting the chosen pad starts the sequence, making live show production even simpler.

In Sync: Improved Pad Link

Do you have an audio backing track and an audio click that need to start together? Using pad link, you can hit just one pad and start audio from two pads simultaneously. And you can use pad link with any combination of pads and external triggers. Then use mute groups to silence the previous pad when you hit the next one, so only one pad sounds at a time. Together, pad link and mute groups create unlimited combinations of tracks, loops, and audio within each kit.

On the Beat: The Click Track

As drummers, it's your job to create the rhythm underlying the performance. Thanks to the flexible internal click, staying in time has never been easier. The internal click is fully editable with sound and note value selection, and you can assign any sample as the click sound. Then start the click from a pad, a button, or by hitting an external trigger pad. And even while it's playing, you're always in control: the click can be set to toggle on and off with stick hits, to play once after a hit, or to reactivate every time you hit it.

Take Control: Pad Editing

Pad Edit controls are immediately at hand when you want to edit samples on the fly. Adjust volume and pitch with dedicated real-time controls. Or press a button to adjust attack and release for pad transient settings. And when you want to get into the details, the color display gives you clear access to many advanced parameters.
