Since its introduction, the NT5 has been a great success, becoming the first choice, as a small diaphragm (1/2") microphone, among thousands of professional musicians and sound engineers around the world. Both in the studio and in live applications, the NT5 is now considered a standard. With the success of the NT5, RODE received multiple requests for a microphone that would retain the same qualities as the NT5, but with the introduction of additional features, requested for different applications. RODE wanted to please its users and the result is the new NT55. The NT55 has the same sound quality, ease of use and robustness as the NT5, but with the added integration of a two-stage high-pass filter and two attenuation levels. In addition, RODE has also included an omnidirectional capsule (NT45-O) in the kit, which can be used to replace the cardioid NT45-C normally mounted on the microphone, making the NT55 a truly versatile and complete system. The NT55 offers above-average quality thanks to a very low-noise balanced output, a wide dynamic range and its frequency response. The electronic circuit has 3 pad positions (0, -10 or -20dB attenuation) and 3 high-pass filter positions (flat, 75Hz or 150Hz cut-off). The NT55 uses 1/2" small diaphragm (externally polarized) and gold-plated capsules, which have already contributed to making the NT5 famous. Now, with the availability of the omnidirectional capsule, the NT55 acquires even greater versatility. The result is a microphone ideal for many situations: live performances, studio recordings, film, television, broadcast, theatre, surround, ambient recordings, etc.
