It's not just a simple reissue of a classic, but, as <strong>Dave Smith</strong> says: "<em>It's the result of our efforts to build the most impressive sounding modern analog polysynth possible</em>". To the strengths of the original (true voltage-controlled oscillators, filters, and amplifiers), the Prophet 6 adds features and improvements, such as 2 studio-quality effects, a polyphonic step sequencer, an arpeggiator, and much more. The result is a <strong>pure analog sound</strong> with the stability and reliability of a cutting-edge modern synthesizer.</span></p><h2 style="font-weight: 400;"><span><strong>Sound synthesis in the Prophet 6</strong></span></h2><p style="font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;">The warm and punchy sound of the Prophet 6 is the result of its newly designed voltage-controlled oscillators. 2 discrete VCOs with pure analog sound, plus a sub-oscillator and white noise. The waves generated by the oscillators are: saw, triangle, and variable-width pulse, while the sub-oscillator generates a square wave tuned one octave below oscillator 1. The waveforms are continuously variable, meaning our sound palette will increase thanks to the variety of intermediate waves created. Oscillator 1 can be synchronized to oscillator 2; this function is called <strong>Hard-Sync</strong> and can be activated via the <strong>Sync</strong> button located in the Oscillator 1 section. Oscillator 2 is accompanied by a <strong>Fine</strong> potentiometer to vary the tuning in a ¼ tone range. The <strong>Low Freq</strong> switch located in the Oscillator 2 section is used to trigger the generation of very low frequencies, thus allowing it to be used as a polyphonic LFO. Both oscillators are new generation: reliable and extremely in tune. To emulate the instability of oscillators in old vintage analog synthesizers, the <strong>Slop</strong> potentiometer adds a random detuning; use it to create Classic Analog sounds or to experiment with new soundscapes. By activating the <strong>Unison</strong> function, the Prophet 6 behaves like a monophonic synth: it plays only one note at a time. Use it to create full-bodied and imposing basses and leads by assigning all six voices to a single note: 12 oscillators per key! The classic <strong>Poly-Chain</strong> of the <strong><a href="https://www.algameko.com/it/brands/sequential" target="_blank">Sequential</a></strong> allows you to connect another <strong>Prophet 6</strong> (keyboard or <a href="https://www.algameko.com/it/synth-analogici/sequential/prophet-6-desktop" target="_blank">desktop</a>) via MIDI to double the polyphony notes. The <span>twelve voices</span> available in this particular configuration are also useful for avoiding note cutoff in chords with long release times.</p><h2 style="font-weight: 400;"><span><strong>The Filter of the Sequential Prophet 6</strong></span></h2><p style="font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;">The Prophet 6 has <strong>two analog filters per voice</strong>. Two distinct VCFs that allow you to program a wide spectrum of sounds. These are a <strong><span>4-pole low-pass</span></strong> and a <strong><span>2-pole high-pass</span></strong>, both resonant. These filters are located in two dedicated sections, and each can be controlled via Cutoff, Resonance, and Envelope potentiometers. The <strong>Sequential Prophet 6</strong> was designed to use both filters simultaneously, resulting in a precise band-pass. The ability to assign Velocity to the filters independently is very interesting; this effect, though simple, opens up creative and impactful programming possibilities.</p><h2 style="font-weight: 400;"><span><strong>The effects of Sequential Prophet 6</strong></span></h2><p style="font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;">Two high-quality digital multi-effects (<span>24 bit/48kHz</span>) are available in the instrument: <strong>Effect A</strong> and <strong>Effect B</strong>. Both provide standard delay, BBD delay, chorus, phase shifter, ring modulator, and flanger. In multi-effect B, we find room, plate, and the inevitable spring reverbs. The true-bypass function guarantees the purity of the analog path: if the effects are not activated, they do not interfere with the analog path. In addition to these two effects, there is also a stereo analog <strong>distortion</strong> ready to provide warmth or aggression.</p><h2 style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>The modulations of the Prophet 6</strong></h2><p style="font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;">Compared to its predecessor, the <strong>Poly Mod</strong> section has been improved to connect modulation sources to destinations. True to the original, the sources are the filter envelope and oscillator 2 (both with bipolar control). Destinations include oscillator 1 frequency, oscillator 1 waveform, oscillator 1 pulse width, low-pass filter cutoff, and high-pass filter cutoff. The <strong>Prophet 6</strong> has 1 syncable LFO with 5 waveforms and 6 programmable destinations. There are <strong>two ADSR type envelopes</strong> located on the right side of the front panel: the first dedicated to the amplifier and the second to the filters. The second oscillator can be activated in Low Freq mode to be used as a second LFO.<span> </span></p><h2 style="font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;"><strong>The connections of the Prophet 6<span>             </span></strong></h2><p style="font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;">All Sequential instruments are designed with <strong>complete MIDI connectivity</strong> consisting of the classic triad (In, Out, and Thru) on five-pin DIN connectors and a class-compliant USB Type B port (no drivers needed) for bidirectional communication with your PC or Mac computer, or with other instruments that support MIDI over USB connections (e.g.: <a href="https://www.algameko.com/it/productsFT.php?str=mpc&amp;o=5&amp;f=1" target="_blank">Akai Pro MPC</a> or <a href="https://www.algameko.com/it/campionatori-sample-player/akai-professional/force" target="_blank">Force</a>). The Prophet 6 provides inputs for a Footswitch-type Sustain pedal (1/4” TS jack), for 2 expression pedals (1/4” TRS jack) – one for volume and one for filter cutoff – and for a footswitch to manage the sequencer's on/off. As audio outputs, we find two (L and R) 1/4” TS jack outputs and a stereo headphone output (TRS) on a 1/4” jack.</p><h2 style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Keyboard, controls and memory</strong></h2><p style="font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;">The front panel offers a knob for immediate access to practically all Prophet 6 functions. Included are 500 permanent factory Programs and 500 rewritable user Programs. By deactivating the Preset button, the <strong>live panel mode</strong> is activated, and the Prophet 6 sound switches to the current settings of the potentiometers and switches. This way, what you see is what you hear. The majestic sound of this instrument is enclosed in a four-octave semi-weighted keyboard with velocity and aftertouch.
