The PRM1 precision microphone is a specific type of electret condenser microphone that provides accurate reproduction of a room's sound characteristics for use with audio analysis tools, such as real-time analyzers (RTA) and spectrographs. As it is a condenser microphone, it requires phantom power. The PRM1 employs a pre-polarized electret condenser 1/4" capsule and has an omnidirectional polar pattern: this allows it to measure reflections, as well as direct signals, providing an accurate description of the room. This microphone can handle SPLs up to 132 dB and shows a linear frequency response between 20 Hz and 20 kHz, so it does not color the sound. It has a limited dynamic range, as it is designed to receive test frequencies, such as pink noise, at a fixed level. Therefore, it is not recommended for recordings, but it is the ideal microphone for optimizing an audio system to accurately reproduce tracks in an environment.
