There are so many features to the Orange OR30 that it’s hard to know where to begin, but whether it’s the all-British build, the footswitchable volume control, or the bright switch (a first for an Orange amp), we absolutely have to talk about how the OR30 is also one of the loudest amps around. That’s right: don’t let the 30W output fool you – this creature clocks the same SPLs as a 100W amp in the rehearsal room, meaning you’re getting quantities and qualities of classic Orange tone in an unsurpassed package.

And what tone it is: with a valve rectifier allowing for a super-bouncy attack and release feel that has you running your fingers across the fretboard, and gain that ranges from clean to crunch to roaring saturation, this is an amp that will bring out the best in players of all styles. This versatility is also reflected in the amp’s controls: with a cross-line presence control designed to work at any volume, not just when maxed out, you can roll off the highs in the tone stack and add in the presence, or vice-versa, and get two completely different sounds.

Add in the three-position bright switch, and the opportunities to shape your sound are almost endless. With the switch in the neutral centre position, the amp is a perfect pedal platform, allowing the musculature of your distortion and overdrive effects to boost the amp’s sound. Flicking the switch to the left gives a high-end lift, whilst flicking to the right activates a high-end extension to finesse the tone, just as in the best classic rock amps of old. Then, once you’ve established your ideal sound, add in the second volume control that can be footswitched for even more flexibility: a perfect rhythm tone can become your main sound with the stomp of a foot, giving you a wattage jump for solos, with a choke and enormous output transformer providing increased perceived clean headroom, ensuring your sound stays cleaner when turning up.

It all adds up to the best British single channel amp you can build, skimping on nothing in terms of features, and with virtually no background noise. Essentially, when you want total control, accept nothing less than the OR30!

BRIGHT SWITCH. A three-way bright switch gives you a clean pedal platform, a fine treble lift to interface with your tone stack, or a broad treble lift that delivers cut-through.

FOOTSWITCHABLE VOLUME BOOST. A footswitchable secondary volume setting gives this single channel amp a cheeky way to switch between rhythm and lead with ease.

CROSS-LINE. Many presence controls rely on negative feedback, meaning you only notice them at high volume. Not the OR30: these are cross-line, so they work at any volume.
