Moog Music has officially resumed production of the Minimoog Model D, the world's first portable synth, still considered the quintessential synthesizer.After 35 years, they have decided to restart production of their flagship model in Asheville, using the same artisanal manufacturing procedures and the same components. No changes have been made to the signal path and the sound generation engine, but some important new features have been introduced that do not alter the sonic potential of the first edition but significantly enrich it.The main changes introduced with the new edition of the Minimoog Model D include a Fatar keyboard with velocity and aftertouch, a dedicated LFO with square and triangle waveforms, CV outputs for pitch, gate, velocity and aftertouch, basic MIDI integration and a modification to the mixer that allows for even greater sound pressure and overdrive. Every single Minimoog Model D unit is handmade in the Moog Factory in Asheville by Moog employees, who are also owners of the company. Due to the complexity of the manufacturing process, only a limited number of units can be produced per month, and waiting times to get hold of this highly sought-after synth could be quite long.
