M281 Thump Bass Preamp is the bass preamp by MXR that combines the sweet tone of the Echoplex preamp with a three-band equalization and a control to select the midrange frequencies to adjust, allowing for detailed sound sculpting.

OVERVIEW OF THE MXR M281 THUMP BASS PREAMP

The MXR M281 Thump Bass Preamp allows you to sweeten your bass tone and boost the signal. This pedal was conceived by MXR when the MXR design team discovered that the Echoplex preamp worked well for both guitar and bass. Using that circuitry as a base, the MXR team added a simple but powerful interface to sculpt the sound in the studio or on stage. The Treble and Bass knobs adjust frequencies at 4 kHz and 40 Hz respectively, while the Mid knob adjusts the frequencies set with the Frequency knob, from 250 Hz to 1 kHz. This frequency range was selected to allow the bassist to refine their sound.

Treb: cuts or boosts highs at 4 kHz
Mid: cuts or boosts mids selected with the Frequency knob
Bass: cuts or boosts lows at 40 Hz
Frequency: sets the mids to be adjusted from 250 Hz to 1 kHz
