Description

Korg Kp3+ Kaoss Pad

The Korg KP3+ complies with ERP (Energy Related Product) directives and supports SDHC cards, but it significantly modifies the circuitry to take advantage of the new functions added. There are 150 presets, of which 42 are completely new, including algorithms derived from the KAOSS PAD QUAD: such as Vinyl break, Ducking Comp, and the powerful Looper. Thanks to the latter, real-time loop management and manipulation will be much more dynamic and captivating. The KP3+ features a total of 150 new generation effect programs dedicated to musicians, producers, and DJs, alongside classic effects like delay, flanger, etc...

Among the new effect presets are dLY.2 Echo Break and rEV.3 Reverb Break, which deactivate the input signal to generate delay or reverb effects: perfect for creating pauses during performances, or, in a DJ set, for transitioning from one genre to another, or for moving from one track to another that would otherwise be impossible to mix. Then there's the FL.16 Center Canceler preset for attenuating the vocal part of a track, the LFO.1 Jag Filter, a non-resonant filter with a chop function, the dLY.5 One Delay, and the Grn.6 Stutter Grain which alternates a grain shifter with the looper effect. The looper effects have been completely redesigned, for example: by moving your fingers to change the number of beats included in a loop, the variation interval will be automatically quantized, for always "in-time" performances. Combinations of rhythmic effects, loops together with other effects, such as the slicer, are available by using presets LoP.4 Freeze Looper, LoP.6 Shuttle Looper, and LoP.7 Slice Looper. The simulation of effects created with vinyl records (scratch and break) is now possible with new dedicated presets, such as the basic Mod.1 Vinyl Break and Mod.2 Break Reverb, LoP.2 Break Looper and LoP.8 Loop Breaker, which combine other effects (loop, reverb, etc.) with the vinyl effect.

The Korg KP3+ includes all previous effects, such as the grain shifter, the decimator, an analog-style filter with a variable saturation circuit on the processed audio spectrum, and an equalizer directly controllable from the finger pad. The KP3+ also features rhythmic grooves, vocoder, and synths playable directly via the control pad with fingertips, simply by moving along the X/Y axes. The "FX Release" function is very interesting, which, when you remove your fingers from the control pad, adds a programmable delay synchronized to the BPM tempo calculated by the KP3+. This function avoids the unpleasant cutoff that occurs when switching from one effect to another. Regarding the sampling function, the user will have 4 banks/buttons that will allow them to record, save, and play one-shot or "looped" samples at a sampling frequency of 48 kHz, sampleable from line and microphone inputs, which use 24-bit A/D converters for greater fidelity. Samples can be saved on Secure Digital (SD and SDHC card) memory, or directly to a computer via the integrated USB port. A unique feature of the sampler is that it works with rhythmic values, and not minutes/seconds (approximately 13 seconds per key based on BPM), thus allowing slicing operations (extrapolation of individual drum sounds that make up a loop), cutting, and loop setting to be much more immediate than competing machines. Synchronicity is a fundamental element for the KP3+: the BPM speed of connected audio input sources is automatically calculated, furthermore, the user will be free to set it to a preferred value, or by using the tap tempo function.

The KP3+ is also capable of receiving and sending MIDI-Clock to other MIDI instruments. Thanks to these functions, the user can calculate the BPM speed of a track played by a turntable connected to the KP3+'s audio input, and then synchronize the internal effects and other cascaded MIDI instruments (Ableton Live, drum machines, synths, samplers, etc.). The KP3+ also functions as a MIDI Controller: it sends 3 control change numbers from the control pad and one from the slider, while the sampler buttons send note on/off messages. The included software editor will allow the user to modify recorded samples, including their pitch.
