Double Drive is John Myung's signature pedal developed by Ashdown for the legendary Dream Theater bassist.

After speaking with John at the start of the recording sessions for Dream Theater's latest album, John wanted to deepen his tonal palette with Ashdown; he had been using ABM-600 amplifiers for a long time and wanted something that would strengthen the relationship, and having never before created a signature pedal for him, the best choice would be to produce something worthy of a musician of such caliber.  

By delving deeper with his technician and Dream Theater' crew chief, Maddi, Ashdown got an idea of what was needed to be in line with his amplifiers and instruments: his signature Music Man Bongo 6-string has a unique tonal quality and the distortion of his bass therefore requires a strong gain structure to replicate a wide range of frequencies.  

John said this about his Double Drive signature:

Drive 2: it offers excellent bass presence adjustment, managing to make them stand out without hindering them".

The pedal features two individual distortions that can be layered to achieve new gain levels. An isolated DI transformer for use with FOH or DAW interfaces, built with 1.6 mm Zintec with a 0.9 mm alloy top panel, ensures the pedal is built to last. A dual VU meter adorns the top of the pedal and records the input and output signals of the pedal to ensure proper gain structure based on the input source.
