It features the same signal path that made the single-channel J48 the most suitable active direct box for touring. And with users as diverse as Paul McCartney, Tommy Emmanuel, and Joe Chiccarelli, you can be sure it will meet the most demanding requirements. The design begins with a 14-gauge steel chassis and a robust book-end design that protects switches and connectors. The internal I-beam construction ensures that the circuit board does not twist, reducing the possibility of solder joint detachment and potential failures. This translates into an extremely linear frequency response from 10Hz to 40kHz and the ability to effortlessly handle high-output instruments. Additionally, a -15dB pad can be activated for handling extreme signals. There is also a <strong>high-pass filter</strong> that gently attenuates low frequencies below 80Hz to clean up muddy sounds and excessive resonance. The 180º polarity reverse will help when using the J48 Stereo with dual-element pickups to align phase sources or eliminate acoustic hot-spots that can cause feedback on stage. A unique aspect of the power supply is how the J48 handles hum and buzz caused by ground loops. The traditional solution is to lift the audio ground by disconnecting pin 1 on the XLR output, but doing so turns off the 48-volt phantom power from the console, forcing a battery into the system. Unfortunately, batteries are inconsistent, and when they start to discharge, they severely affect the available voltage and the resulting headroom. Instead, the J48 employs a DC-DC converter with a high-frequency transformer that allows the audio ground to be eliminated from the power supply.
