Description

186C is the historical guitar single treble string set from Aquila Corde Armoniche's Ambra 900 series. The set consists of trebles made of rectified Super Nylgut with representative diameters inspired by Pujol's trebles.

Overview of Aquila Corde Armoniche's Ambra 900 series for historical guitar

Until the mid-20th century, guitar strings consisted exclusively of gut trebles, while the basses were wound silk strings. The acoustic performance of such a setup was very different from that of current sets. It was characterized by a marked tonal presence, attack, and brilliance typical of the higher gut strings (certainly superior to nylon and in some ways more similar to PVDF or Carbon), while the basses, conversely, were exquisitely vocal in nature, in other words, less brilliant and persistent in sound than current nylon-wound basses, and more focused on the fundamental. The Ambra 900 set was born from this historical observation and was specially designed to best recreate, using the most modern synthetic materials, the sound of the original gut and silk-wound sets. The set comes in a single tension and consists of gut-yellow Supernylgut® trebles with a rectified surface, exactly as is done for gut strings, adopting the average representative diameters indicated by Pujol in his 1934 Escuela Razonada de la Guitarra. For the basses, which are silver-plated copper wound on a core of a special red multifilament called 'Rayon', a balance between metal and core has been sought to best recreate the typical sound of the silk-wound strings of that time.
