The FG/FS9 models offer exceptional projection while delivering outstanding clarity and detailed articulation—a unique combination particularly well-suited for accompanying vocals. They feature Adirondack spruce tops with tapered edges, which provide structural strength while allowing the body to vibrate more efficiently, a combination that contributes to both power and sensitivity.

The neck has a new structural design that combines bolt-on and glued construction to increase body vibration and improve maintainability. The neck and body joints are finished and adjusted with high precision.

The distinctive fingerboard inlays evoke traditional Japanese Kumiki woodworking, while the rope-shaped inlay and purfling on the rosette are a motif deeply rooted in Japanese culture.

When designing the FG/FS9 models, Yamaha used state-of-the-art 3D acoustic and structural measurement processes to more deeply understand how physical structure affects acoustic characteristics. Expert luthiers in the custom shop built repeated prototypes.

The FG/FS9 models offer two body shapes: dreadnought style for the FG and concert style for the FS. The FG's larger, wider body responds superbly to strumming, with powerful bass and projective tones, while the FS's smaller body produces a balanced tone with a sensitive response that enhances subtle and detailed arpeggios.
