The WA12 MKII is a high-voltage, dual-transformer, fully discrete microphone preamplifier. Designed to provide high gain values (+71dB), it features high headroom, low noise floor, and is capable of delivering top-level sonic performance in a wide range of recording applications. The WA12 MKII is based on a discrete op-amp, the X731, which is an accurate reproduction of the classic vintage Melcor 1731, considered by some to be the precursor to modern 2520-style op-amps. The X731 can achieve vibrant, clean, and realistic tones, but it can also be driven into saturation in a subtle, barely perceptible way, or in a more violent and brutal manner!
