The input stage can accommodate any type of source, line or microphone. Thanks to the TONE switch, the impedance is varied from 600 ohm to 150 ohm: this results in a +6dB increase, bringing the maximum gain from +65dB to +71dB. This, in addition to making the unit a perfect complement for ribbon microphones, allows for a significant change in the sound character of connected microphones or instruments. The TONE control influences all inputs (MIC, LINE and Hi-Z). The 600 ohm impedance is recommended for condenser and dynamic microphones, while setting it to 150 ohm (TONE button pressed) will allow you to drive even the most difficult ribbon microphones without problems. The TONE label is due to the fact that the frequency response is also modified, so it is recommended to try the Tone Beast with the button in both positions and check which solution is most pleasing, regardless of the source! x731 / x18 Switch: two completely different discrete operational amplifiers can be selected: one based on the style of the classic OP AMP 1731, characterized by vintage sonorities, the other based on the 918, more modern and transparent. Both components are mounted on standard 6-pin sockets, which allows the user to use other OP AMPs of their choice. CAPACITORS SWITCH Two different capacitors can be selected, another arrow in the TONE BEAST's quiver! STEEL and NICKEL, meaning a TANTALUM capacitor (vintage sound) and a decidedly "clean" ELECTROLYTIC one. OUTPUT Transformer Switch The output transformer can be completely bypassed, to also have a transparent preamp without transformers (the output is attenuated by 8dB). OUTPUT Transformer Selector Switch This switch allows you to choose between two different CINEMAG output transformers. The "Steel Core" has a decidedly Vintage flavor with a slight emphasis on the mids; the "50% Nickel Core", designed by CineMag specifically for the Tone Beast, has more "Clean" sound characteristics. The nickel version undergoes a particular manufacturing process that, while maintaining a very linear response, maintains a very soft sonic imprint, it's impossible not to fall in love with its sound!!!
