Description

Sequential Trigon 6 is a 6-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer, with 3 custom-designed oscillators and a low-pass ladder filter. Developed by the Sequential team, the latest concept to which the late Dave Smith contributed, Trigon 6 is an instrument capable of generating any sound typical of analog history as well as modern synth timbres for musicians, sound designers, and/or producers always looking for innovation in the studio or on stage.

The analog sound engine of the Sequential Trigon 6 is housed in a 4-octave velocity- and aftertouch-sensitive keyboard, with an arpeggiator and 64-step polyphonic sequencer. The 3 VCOs offer triangle, saw, and pulse waveforms, all of which can be activated simultaneously. A white noise generator is also present. The ladder filter is configurable in 2 or 4 poles. 2 ADSRs (filter and amplifier) are present, and among the various modulation possibilities, LFO and Poly Mod are also noteworthy. On the effects front, Trigon 6 offers a stereo analog distortion, two 24-bit/48kHz digital processors with reverb, delay, chorus, flanger, phase shifter, and ring modulator effects. There are 500 factory presets and 500 user presets.

In the Trigon 6, we find the best qualities of the acclaimed Prophet 6 and OB 6 synthesizers from Sequential, but with an extra gear. 6-voice polyphony, easy programmability with every function managed by a dedicated potentiometer, a semi-weighted four-octave keyboard sensitive to velocity and aftertouch, both programmable. What differentiates it from its predecessors is its pulsating heart composed of 3 newly designed VCOs and a VCF ladder filter configurable in 2 or 4 poles. The filter is an improved version of the ladder filter that Sequential created for its Pro 3 monophonic synthesizer.

The modulations in the Sequential Trigon 6

On the panel of the Trigon-6, we find a complete and well-stocked modulation structure for sound design. Sequential's must-haves are present, including the 2 ADSRs, one dedicated to the filter and the other to the amplifier, a syncable LFO with multiple waveforms and destinations, a powerful yet easy-to-use 64-step polyphonic sequencer, and an arpeggiator with an extension of up to three octaves. Unison allows the Trigon 6 to be used as a monophonic synth. This means we can play from one to six notes from a single key. Considering that each note is composed of three oscillators, in this mode we can play with a single note up to 18 oscillators! The classic Poly Mod of Sequential is also present, a particular polyphonic modulation that allows an oscillator to be used as an LFO: by playing low notes, the LFO will be slow, and as we go up in note, the LFO will increase its oscillation speed. This function invented by Dave Smith is used exactly as it was 45 years ago and still amazes with how it manages to bring particular and distinctive sounds to life.

The 1000 memories of the Trigon 6

The Trigon 6 has 1000 preset locations. 500 are factory presets, which include presets of various categories, from basses to leads, pads to plucks, and many others. The remaining 500 can be saved by the user very simply and quickly, without losing concentration.

The effects section of the Trigon 6

Effects could not be missing to make the sound even more moldable and adaptable to your needs. Thanks to the two digital effects, you will have studio-quality reverbs, delays (standard and BBD), chorus, flanger, phaser, and ring modulator. The stereo distortion is 100% analog, it is activated by a dedicated potentiometer and adds warmth or aggressiveness gradually.

The Vintage knob in the Sequential Trigon 6

The much-loved and well-tested vintage knob could not be missing. Now present in all Sequential synths, this function has revolutionized modern synthesis. With this knob, it is possible to gradually and completely randomly increase the variations in pitch between voices, the frequency response of the filter, and the response times of the envelopes and the amplifier. All this will make the sound of Trigon-6 even more full-bodied, warm, and organic. The behavior of the Vintage function is adjustable as desired: you can obtain the stability of a perfect modern instrument, or push it to the extreme to emulate a synth worn out by time.
