Description

At TAMA, our relentless product team immersed their activity in direct drive bass drum pedals. Direct drive pedals offer a unique advantage: immediate energy conversion and accelerated beater motion. However, our product team understood the opportunity to design a direct drive pedal with a perfect balance and alignment of three critical performance elements: Power–Speed–Feel.

We identified three critical design components: the direct drive linkage, the drive cam, and the drive/footboard connection angle. We worked closely with a stylistically diverse group of TAMA artists to deepen our understanding of what top-level players want and need from a direct drive pedal. The product team-artist dialogue allowed us to master subtle mechanical relationships and angle alignments. This ultimately revealed a design method to overcome the feel and power challenges we believe are inherent in other direct drive pedals. We named this mechanical design the Dynamic Synchronization System.

TAMA's Dyna-Sync pedal defines a new power-speed balance in a direct drive pedal and shatters direct drive pedal assumptions. We are excited to offer drummers of all styles and abilities the opportunity to utilize the pedal's wide range of adjustments to discover a differentiated direct drive feel.

Adjustable height/angle smooth footboard - side-mounted bearing housing - Dyna-Beaters - "Swivel Spring Tight" spring housing - stabilizer plate with Sync-Coil spring - three-position adjustable cam - hard case included

Features

Optimized Drive Design

By precisely positioning and aligning the drive contact point angles between the cam, direct linkage and footboard, we achieved the perfect overall balance of power and speed.

Double Linkage

To convert the force of rotational motion from the footboard to the cam, we developed a sturdy double linkage cam connection system that equally holds the rotational axis bearings from both sides. This produces an almost perfect energy transfer from the footboard to the cam and creates phenomenal reaction speed and power.

Slidable Cam

The upper section of the cam slides back and forth with a "non-step" action to adjust the turning radius of the cam. A larger turning radius provides a more linear motion between the footboard and beater and results in a high degree of sensitivity for nuanced performance. The smaller turning radius results in a more dynamic (non-linear) motion. The Slidable Cam promotes a highly customized and "connected" feel tailored for vastly different playing styles.

Footboard Angle Adjustment (US.PAT.NO.10475423)

Drummers have come to recognize and appreciate independent bass drum footboard angle adjustment as an important feature to help customize a personal feel. This inspired us to focus on the Dyna-Sync design and create an entirely new and unique footboard angle adjustment. The Dyna-Sync footboard angle design integrates into the shell-shaped connection point between the linkage and the footboard and is fully adjustable to offer a totally customized pedal angle adjustment.

Sync-Coil (US.PAT.NO.7408104)

The Sync-Coil is a steel spring that is 1.5 times heavier than our established Cobra Coil. The Sync-Coil assists the return of the footboard to the original position to provide an additional element of swiftness to the pedal and slides on the bass plate so drummers can customize their level of pedal return assistance.

Dyna Beater

Featuring black felt and a slightly tapered shape, this traditionally styled beater provides even impact on the bass drum head surface to maximize clear, dynamic articulation.

Hinge Guard Block

We changed the construction of the bearing hinge on the footboard from a one-piece to a two-piece design, which holds the bearing more evenly, minimizing stress and maximizing smoothness, while adding to the sense of pedal power.

Swivel Spring Tight (US.PAT.NO.9236038)

The conventional approach to the spring assembly (including previous Iron Cobra pedals) has been to anchor the bottom of the spring while the top of the spring is pulled at various angles throughout the pedal stroke. But a spring pulled at an angle represents wasted energy and causes turbulence. The Swivel Spring Tight assembly solves this problem, recovering lost energy and optimizing smoothness through the use of a shaped assembly that allows the base to swivel freely with the spring. This allows for a direct pull of the spring throughout the entire pedal stroke, resulting in the smoothest and lightest action ever found on a bass drum pedal.

Speedo-Ring

TAMA eliminated another source of friction by replacing the traditional nylon rocker cam with the Speedo-Ring, a rocker cam with a high-quality built-in ball bearing rocker. The Quick-Hook not only allows for easy setup and breakdown but provides a compact pedal that you can pack in the hard case without removing the beater.

Para-Clamp II Pro

TAMA now introduces Para-Clamp II, an even smarter and more useful version of the popular original. The Para-Clamp II is capable of gripping the widest variety of bass drum hoops ever. The improvement is largely due to its newly designed three-dimensional rubber grip. Holding power is increased and the possibility of scratching the hoop is eliminated. In addition, setup and breakdown are easily facilitated, while seated on a throne because the Para-Clamp II Pro's T-bolt is on the side of the footboard, rather than underneath it.

Oiles® Bearing Hinge

"Offering even less friction than standard ball bearings, Oiles® bearings also eliminate side-to-side motion and provide superior durability (which is why they are used in the aerospace industry).
