Ten years ago, KORG successfully launched the Stage Vintage SV digital piano line, characterized by features always loved by musicians, such as an extended control panel, a valuable sound database with many Vintage sounds, combined with an articulated effects section and an excellent Keybed. This Stage digital piano is now available in 4 models with the same technical and operational specifications: SV2-88 and SV2-73 with RH3 Keybed with 88 and 73 keys, and two additional models SV2-88S and SV2-73S equipped with a useful and efficient internal amplification system made by the renowned Italian company K-ARRAY. SV2-88 employs the most advanced KORG technological resources such as extended memory, wide polyphonic articulation, many Presets, control possibilities, and advanced performance. Ultimately, everything you could want in a professional Stage digital piano.

SV2-88 uses very accurate and detailed samples thanks to a large dedicated system memory, these are organized into 72 Programs, across 3 sections, manageable in Split and Layer with a maximum of 128 voices of polyphony. Each Program can use up to 3 sounds, such as: a Split with Piano and Bass, plus a Layer with Strings, the Split point can be set directly from the main panel, while 64 FAVORITE locations allow you to store and recall your personal settings.

The new sounds of SV2-88

For the sounds of SV2-88, only original instruments in perfect working condition were used, sampled with multi-microphone techniques to capture as many nuances as possible. Various dynamic levels were always sampled to accurately reproduce dynamic-timbral variations: from the most delicate pianissimo (ppp) to the most incisive fortissimo (fff). The use of KORG's RX technology also allowed the use of peculiar elements of each sound such as: the "Slap" of the tines of electric pianos, the key release noise in acoustic pianos or Clavinets, or the Click of organ contacts. The use of these elements present in the original instruments allows for even higher results in terms of realism, obtaining a sound that is always very present and with a precise placement in every Mix.

A Video Playlist dedicated to SV2-88 sounds and functions

The Acoustic Pianos of SV2-88

With SV2-88 it is possible to recall grand piano sounds from the most famous and renowned manufacturers worldwide: German, Italian, Austrian, and Japanese. When the musical repertoire requires it, upright piano sounds (Japanese or German) can also be used, or a real Honky-Tonk piano or an authentic Tack Piano; the series of classic keyboard timbres is completed by two splendid harpsichords, one French and one Italian. The variety and quality of these sounds allow for great versatility of use.

The Other Timbres of SV2-88

SV2-88 has many classic, high-quality keyboard instruments: electromechanical, transistor, tape, analog, and digital; sounds that have characterized decades of pop and rock music and are still in high demand and widely used. There are virtually all the most renowned American electric pianos: tine and reed, the best known and most appreciated Japanese CP Grand, a rare German electric piano, the characteristic timbre of the Clavinet with all its most typical settings, and electronic pianos available in the most varied versions: analog, digital, VPM, FM, and sampled, including the unmistakable and popular piano from KORG M1. Then we have organs, with a wide selection from the most typical Tone Wheels, to the VOX Combo, to the typical Italian 60s transistor organ, to American tube organs, and the peculiar sounds of the pipe organ. String sounds cannot be missing from such an accurately structured database: from the classic 70s analog Vintage Strings Machine, to the most typical sounds of the well-known magnetic tape keyboard, to a realistic orchestral section; SV2 also features Mallets, Brass, choirs, guitars, basses, and even Lead Synt sounds for solos or Pads, ideal for combining in Layers or Splits.

Sound Control on SV2-88

The user interface of SV2-88 is simple and intuitive at the same time, no LCD display and complicated menus. The control panel allows you to intervene directly whenever necessary, simply by turning knobs or pressing switches that display the activation of effects or other parameters. Sounds are selected using 2 encoders, one for families and the other for variations, 8 backlit FAVORITE buttons recall up to 64 personalized Presets. The piano also has a practical lock function, which prevents accidental activation of sounds or effects, which might happen by inadvertently touching the panel during a performance; or preventing unauthorized persons from changing settings.

The Effects of SV2-88

The articulated effects section increases the effectiveness in simulating original instruments. SV2 has 6 different DSP (Digital Signal Processing) processing steps, where all effects are realized with sophisticated KORG physical modeling technology, capable of accurately reproducing the tonal character, behavior, and even the defects of the original effect:

3-BAND EQUALIZER (Bass, Mid, and Treble)

PRE FX (Red Compressor, Treble Boost, U-Vibe, Vibrato, Tremolo, VOX Wah)

AMP MODELING (Clean, Twin, Tweed, AC30, Boutique, Organ, plus various types of Cabinet simulators and noise reducers)

MODULATION FX (Classic Chorus, Black Chorus, Orange Phaser, Small Phaser, Flanger MX, Rotary)

REVERB/DELAY (Room, Plate, Hall, Spring, Tape Echo and Stereo Delay)

All effects are immediate to activate and adjust, and facilitate the search for new sounds, both Vintage and modern. The processing chain is finally completed by the exclusive KORG Valve Reactor tube circuit, which uses a real 12AX7A tube, capable of providing all the warmth and distinctive timbre of this technology.

The Keybed of KORG SV2-88

All models in the SV2 Stage Vintage line use the renowned KORG RH3 Graded-Hammer Action weighted keyboard, which accurately reproduces the mechanism of a grand piano, including the graded key weighting: the hammers are larger and heavier in the bass register and progressively lighter moving towards the treble. Extremely sensitive, it is capable of faithfully reproducing every expressive nuance of the performance, with 8 different dynamic curves that adapt it to personal technique. There are also 8 different tuning curves: Grand Piano Stretch, Electric Piano Stretch, Electric Grand, Upright Stretch, Detuned, and 2 User Curves, which reproduce the slight intonation differences introduced by the most renowned concert piano tuners. The general tuning and transposition of SV2-88 can be set as desired according to needs, to accompany instruments or singers.

The Computer Editor of SV2-88

SV2-88 comes with a free computer editor (available for PC/Mac) that allows access to functions not directly available on the instrument, enabling more detailed and easy editing of sounds, organizing them, cataloging them, and archiving them personally, also allowing access to many other timbres not directly available on the main panel. This application also simplifies and speeds up the settings of FAVORITES in Split/Layer and their saving in memory, allows loading additional sound libraries released by KORG, and facilitates the exchange of personal sounds between various SV2 users.

The connections of SV2-88

SV2-88 is equipped with a complete set of connections: audio, data, and controls capable of satisfying the needs of modern musicians. The main Left/Right Audio outputs are balanced with XLR connectors, to connect directly to a studio or stage console without the need for additional D.I. Boxes; there is also an additional pair of unbalanced L/R outputs, with 1/4'' Jack connectors. Also available are 2 very useful inputs with 1/4'' Jack connectors, to directly connect an external sound source such as a computer or a Synth to the piano. There is, of course, a headphone jack, useful for personal monitoring on stage, for study, and practice. Standard MIDI IN/OUT jacks allow connection with other MIDI instruments; while the USB port ensures data exchange between SV2 and the computer. Up to 3 different pedals can be used: Damper, Pedal 1, and Pedal 2. The DS-2H Damper pedal is included and supports the "Half-Pedaling" function. Pedal 1 supports a Switch type pedal, which can function as a "Sostenuto" pedal or as a Fast/Slow switch when the Rotary effect is active. Pedal 2 acts as a continuous control pedal, useful for adjusting parameters such as Volume/Expression, Wah, or even as a "Una Corda" pedal, particularly useful for piano sound purists.

KORG SV2-88 Technical Specifications

Keyboard

SV-2 88: 88 keys (A to C), velocity sensitive KORG RH3 (Real Weighted Hammer Action 3)

Dynamic Control (Touch): 8 Curves

Tuning: Master Transpose, Master Tune, tuning curves

Sounds: Sound Generation: EDS-X (Enhanced Definition Synthesis - eXpanded)

Polyphony Max: 128 notes

Multi Sound: Layer, Split

Factory Sounds: 72 (6 Basic Sounds x 2 sets, 6 variations)

EP1 (Vintage): MK I Suitcase, MK I Stage, MK II Suitcase, MK II Stage, MK V Stage, MK V Bright, Dyno EP, Dyno EP Bright, Wurly, Wurly Classic, Wurly Dark, Wurly Bright

EP2 (Various): FM Piano 1, FM Piano 2, FM Piano 3, FM Piano & Pad, Pianet T, Pianet N, Hybrid Piano, Hybrid Tine, Wurly & Strings, FM & Strings, MK II & Pad, FM & Pad

Piano 1 (Acoustic): German Grand, German Classic, Italian Grand, Italian Bright, Japanese Grand, Japanese Bright, Austrian Grand, Austrian Classic, Japanese Upright, Upright Bright, German Upright, Rock Piano

Piano 2 (Various): Electric Grand, German Mono, KORG M1 Piano, KORG SG-1D, Digital Piano, Electra Piano, Tack Piano, Honky-Tonk, Piano & Strings, Piano & Pad, Piano & Synth, Piano & Brass

Clavier: Clav AC, Clav AD, Clav BC, Clav BD, Harpsichord, Harpsichord Oct, Perc.

Organ, Rock Organ, Jazz Organ, VOX Organ, Church Organ, Pipe Organ
