HK Audio Sonar 115 Sub D is an active subwoofer with a 15” driver with DSP and an integrated mixer. It includes a volume control and 3-band equalization for each channel, which can be intuitively adjusted using the knob and the color display. Thanks to the free SONAR REMOTE app (for iOS and Android), all functions can also be controlled remotely for greater convenience.

The Sonar Remote application

The SONAR REMOTE app for iOS and Android tablets and smartphones is a quick and easy way to control the integrated digital mixer. It allows you to control all settings and functions of SONAR Sub D models, including 3-band equalizer parameters. You can also save scenes and presets to make them available on demand by controlling parameters such as adjustments for frequently used microphones, modified SONAR Sub D settings, or basic configurations for different positions.

All settings changed in the app are simultaneously displayed on the SONAR Sub D speaker's display and vice versa! Both displays synchronize in real-time.

Cardioid emission of the HK Audio Sonar 115 Sub D subwoofer

The cardioid principle consists of canceling frequencies radiated to the rear. While mid and high frequencies can be radiated in directional patterns, low frequencies are spherical. This often leads to an unpleasant excess of bass above and behind the stage. SONAR 115 SUB D meets all the requirements, both mechanical and acoustic, to implement effective cardioid configurations quickly and easily, reducing bass radiated to the rear by up to 30 dB! This not only makes stage performances much more relaxed but also results in better sound, as microphones no longer pick up unwanted low frequencies. A second SONAR 115 Sub D can be used to increase the sound pressure level in the bass range. The classic full-stack configuration with two forward-projecting subwoofers increases sound pressure by 3 dB in all directions. But what makes the SONAR 115 Sub D so special are its cardioid capabilities. It features two special presets that allow you to configure a cardioid setup, where the lower subwoofer projects backward, without the need for complex calculations or time corrections.

To do this, simply point the lower SONAR sub to the rear and select the Cardioid Rear preset, then point the upper sub to the front, selecting the Cardioid Front preset. Now both subwoofers can play perfectly together without having to make any further adjustments.
