sE8 is a high-quality condenser microphone designed for a wide range of studio and live applications. Thanks to its custom hand-made 0.5” capsule (small diaphragm) and transformerless output, the sE8 delivers crystal-clear sound quality and a smooth, well-balanced frequency response, making this transducer perfect for a wide variety of applications, from acoustic guitar to piano and drums. The carefully selected electronics with very low-noise components, along with the attenuation pad, allow the microphone to withstand high sound pressure levels (SPL) for a truly wide dynamic range. The two-position low-cut filter helps eliminate unwanted noise such as footsteps and can also compensate for an excess of low frequencies caused by the proximity effect. This makes the sE8 excellent even in close-up recording applications for acoustic instruments and other sources such as electric guitar cabinets, brass instruments, and drums. The robust metal casing and high construction standards make it reliable even "on the road," on stages, and in all conditions of use. sE8 features a dual PAD switch for attenuation and a dual low-cut filter. The attenuation switch is located at the top on the back of the microphone body. Once activated, the input signal is attenuated by 10 or 20 dB so that high sound pressure sources or very close sources can be recorded without distortion. Using the switch also reduces the possibility of saturating the input stages of audio interfaces, mixers, and microphone preamplifiers. The Low-Cut Switch is located on the front right of the microphone and engages an 80Hz or 160Hz high-pass filter. In the central position, the filter is inactive, for a linear frequency response. Wind noise, plosive consonants, and footsteps can ruin the signal to be recorded: activating the high-pass filter (low-cut filter) reduces these types of disturbances and avoids unwanted distortions. Furthermore, the low-cut filter is also useful for minimizing the proximity effect when the microphone is placed very close to the source. The sE8 is also available as a matched stereo pair: it also includes the appropriate 'stereo mounting bar' for secure and precise positioning, two mic clips, two windscreens, and a sturdy flight case.
