The battery-powered TB-03 is a direct descendant of the famous TB-303 Bass Line. The layout and controls are identical, so it works just like the original! And it sounds like the original too, thanks to Roland's advanced ACB technology which recreates those liquid and hypnotic grooves of the magical silver box. But the new TB-03 goes far beyond, with many improvements over the original model. The four-digit LED display makes programming easier and more accurate, while the overdrive and delay effects allow you to unleash a wall of tribal and altered sound that will send the crowd into a trance. Back in the studio, the TB-03 can send control information via MIDI or from its USB port, which also functions as a 24-bit/96 kHz audio interface.

When you hear a TB-303, you know it: a hypnotic and tribal sound that achieves maximum effect in dark, crowded environments, driven by large sound systems. Using the same ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) technology as the acclaimed AIRA series, the TB-03 accurately emulates the expressive and elusive sound of its older sibling, while also adding a few surprises. Square and sawtooth waveforms are available, along with all the knobs that help you shape the unique character of the 303, including Tuning, Cutoff, Resonance, Envelope Mod, Decay, and Accent.

New functions not present on the original

The TB-03 includes several improvements over the original TB-303. To start, the four-digit LED display makes programming easier and more detailed, as you have a visual representation of the value being modified. Then you have a variety of overdrive, delay, and reverb effects that drastically change the mood and sound of the TB-03, from soft, to biting, to screaming. Pattern programming is also easier thanks to the new added functions that include step write, shuffle, and fine tempo control. Finally, the inclusion of MIDI and USB ports allows the TB-03 to transmit and receive control information and easily connect to DAWs on computers.

The classic TB sequencer with improved functions

If you're familiar with the TB-303's programming method, then you'll feel at home with the TB-03. The original Pitch and Time write modes are included, along with the brand new Step mode. Pattern programming has also been improved thanks to the LED display, which shows the current sequence step as well as precise tempo values (for example, 125.5 BPM). The internal sequencer can be controlled externally via the Trigger input, and you can even switch between Write and Play modes without stopping pattern playback, opening up new possibilities for live performances.

Connection to external devices

The TB-03 includes MIDI IN/OUT and USB ports, allowing control information to be exchanged with other instruments and devices. This transforms the TB-03 into a versatile controller, especially since you can use the CV/Gate output to control external analog devices and modular synthesizers. This level of control works in both directions, thanks to the Trigger input that allows external devices to drive the TB-03's internal sequencer. Once connected to a PC or Mac, both audio and MIDI data can be sent via the USB port.

Battery or USB bus power

Some of the best music is made away from the studio, so the Roland Boutique series also runs on 4 AA batteries, so it's always ready when inspiration strikes. Alternatively, the TB-03 can be powered by the USB bus.
