Description

The Fireface 802 FS AE is a highly integrated professional audio solution, ideal for both studio and live use, housed in a 19" rack unit. It is designed for those seeking an interface with uncompromising sound quality, stability, and ultra-low latency operation, and who desire an unparalleled set of professional features. Once again, RME has set a new standard with an interface that includes the best of the best and then some. 60 audio channels, high-quality microphone preamps, reference-class converters, a comprehensive effects section, and operation up to 192 kHz, represent only the foundation of many more features. Enhance your recording setup with maximum flexibility. The Fireface 802 FS AE offers ultra-low latency operation thanks to RME's USB 2 technology, combined with RME's legendary driver stability. SteadyClock FS technology for jitter reduction, TotalMix FX's latest Room EQ feature, individually selectable reference levels for all inputs and outputs, full standalone functionality, and identical operation on Windows PCs and Macs complete the package. Technically, the Fireface 802 FS AE is based on the proven Fireface 802 FS model, offering the same powerful features, including precise AD/DA conversion, flexible I/O options, and the same high audio quality cherished by professionals for over two decades. 20 Years of Fireface 800 The Fireface 802 FS AE continues RME's tradition of providing flexible and expandable audio systems. On the front, there are four high-performance XLR/TRS combo inputs for microphones, instruments, and line signals, as well as two stereo headphone jacks with an output level of +17 dBu, capable of ensuring high volumes even with high-impedance headphones. On the rear, the full connectivity of the Fireface 802 FS AE is revealed: in addition to MIDI and Word Clock I/O, there are two optical ADAT I/Os, an AES/EBU I/O, and eight balanced analog line-level inputs and outputs. With the new Multi-Mode, the two ADAT I/Os can be used as separate optical SPDIF inputs and outputs, in addition to the AES I/O. There is also a USB A port for directly connecting the optional ARC USB. Powerful applications for mixing, monitoring, and measurement The Fireface 802 FS AE includes the TotalMix FX DSP mixer, which offers comprehensive routing and monitoring options, as well as the DigiCheck Analyzer for precisely measuring and analyzing digital data in both directions. TotalMix FX can completely replace an external mixer, allowing the creation of multiple zero-latency monitor mixes with EQ, dynamics, reverb, and delay on any output, including main outputs and headphone mixes for musicians. The new Room EQ feature optimizes the management of the existing 3-band parametric equalizer in TotalMix FX, adding a 9-band equalizer, volume calibration, and the Crossfeed function, ideal for immersive and surround audio configurations. In addition, TotalMix Remote allows remote control of TotalMix FX on iPad and Windows/Mac computers, mirroring the current status of the host system, including mix settings, routing, and FX, in real-time. All mixer and effect settings can be adjusted remotely via Ethernet or WiFi. USB 2 Class Compliant Audio The Fireface 802 FS AE operates in two different modes: USB 2 with drivers and Class Compliant mode. Class Compliant mode is a standard natively supported by operating systems such as Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. No proprietary drivers are needed; the device is recognized directly once the CC firmware is loaded. This mode can be activated via a button on the back of the interface. The Fireface 802 FS AE offers full USB 2.0 support in Class Compliant mode, making all channels available in driverless mode on Linux, Mac, and iPadOS. An iPad Pro with a USB-C port can handle up to 60 channels for recording and playback in TotalMix FX for iPad and at the system level. DC-Coupled Outputs - CV/Gate Voltage Control Most audio interfaces are traditionally designed with AC-coupled outputs, which use capacitors to filter out very low frequencies. While these frequencies are generally considered undesirable for audio, there is one case where DC-coupling is preferable: in the world of modular synthesizers, where static or low-frequency signals are used to control various parameters such as pitch or LFO. All line outputs of the Fireface 802 FS AE are fully DC-coupled, allowing the sending of control voltages (CV) or Gate signals to modular synthesizers (Eurorack, Moog/MOTM, and other formats) and other studio equipment. ARC USB Remote Control - Plug'n Play The optional ARC USB accessory connects to the computer via USB and integrates directly with TotalMix FX. It features 15 freely assignable and backlit buttons, an encoder, and a TS jack for connecting a footswitch. The ARC USB is a MIDI remote control for the Fireface 802 FS AE, and as a UAC 1 device, it is natively compatible with Windows and Mac OS X. As soon as it's connected, TotalMix FX automatically detects the ARC USB and communicates with it via simple MIDI commands to control the Fireface 802 FS.
