There are so many features to the Orange OR30 amplifier that it’s hard to know where to begin, but whether it’s the all-British build, footswitchable volume control or the bright switch (a first for an Orange amp), we absolutely have to talk about how the OR30 is also one of the loudest amps out there. That’s right – don’t let the 30W output fool you: this creature hits the same SPL values as a 100W amp in the rehearsal room, meaning you’re getting quantities and quality of classic Orange tone in an unsurpassed machine.

And what a sound: with a valve rectifier allowing for a super-flexible attack and release feel that feels like you’re running your fingers across the fretboard, and gain ranging from clean to crunch to roaring saturation, this is an amp that will make players of all styles perform at their very best. This versatility is also reflected in the amp’s controls: with a cross-line presence control designed to work at any volume and not just at full blast, you can scoop the highs in the tone bar and add the presence, or vice versa, and get two completely different sounds.

Add to that the three-position bright switch, and the possibilities for changing your sound are almost endless. With the switch in the neutral centre position, the amp is a perfect pedal platform, allowing the musculature of your distortion and overdrive effects to boost the amp’s sound. Flicking the switch to the left gives you a treble lift, flicking it to the right activates a treble extension to hone the tone, just like in the best classic rock amps of yesteryear. Then, once you’ve established your ideal sound, add the second volume control that can be switched with a footswitch for even more flexibility: a perfect rhythm tone can become your main sound with the stomp of a foot, giving you a wattage leap for solos, with a choke and huge output transformer offering increased perceived clean headroom, ensuring your sound stays cleaner when you turn up the volume.

All of this makes for the best single-channel British amp you can build, skimping on nothing in terms of features and with practically no background noise. In short, when you want total control, accept nothing less than the OR30!

BRIGHT SWITCH. The three-way bright switch gives you either a clean pedal platform, a fine treble lift to interface with the tone stack, or a broad treble lift that delivers a sharp cut.

FOOTSWITCHABLE VOLUME BOOST. A secondary volume setting activated by a footswitch gives this single-channel amp a cheeky way to easily switch from rhythm to lead.

CROSS-LINE. Many presence controls rely on negative feedback, meaning they only become noticeable at high volumes. Not the OR30: they are cross-line, so they work at any volume.
