Akai Professional MPX8

Description

The Akai Professional MPX8 is an audio sample player for SD or SDHC cards. It features 8 pressure and velocity-sensitive pads, to which audio samples stored on an SD card (not included) can be assigned, loaded, and played back, or it can be used as a USB MIDI Controller for Mac and PC computers. When used as a Sample Player, the MPX8 supports SD cards up to 32GB, from which it can load and play back a maximum of 30MB per KIT. A kit is a collection of 8 samples assigned to the pads directly from the MPX8, or via the software editor (downloadable from the Akai Pro website).

The Akai MPX8 only supports 16-bit .Wav files, mono or stereo, with a sample rate of 48, 44.1, 32, 22.05, or 11.205kHz. Considering the use of stereo audio files at 44.100Hz/16-bit, the MPX8 can play up to approximately 3 minutes of stereo audio simultaneously. The pads can play the assigned sample in three different ways (one-shot, hold, and loop) and modify some simple and essential parameters such as pitch (tune +/- 4 semitones), gain (level: 00/10), pan, and send (post-gain) to a factory pre-set reverb that responds to the Rev parameter. The Akai Pro MPX8 also comes with a rich library of samples consisting of 8 integrated kits in resident memory and two archives in .zip format (one-shot and loop) downloadable from the Akai Pro website, for a total of over 800 single sounds and loops.

The MPX8 can be used in live performances, for playing effects and jingles on the radio, or in theatrical shows, in a recording studio, etc. It features a stereo output (L/R) on Jack connectors, a mini-jack headphone output, traditional MIDI in and out on DIN connectors, and a USB port. When used as a USB controller, it should be noted that it will be possible to freely set the MIDI note message that can be sent by the individual pads and that, in addition to sending velocity, the MPX8 pads send polyphonic aftertouch messages. The product is powered directly via USB and when used as an audio sample player from SD, i.e., without a computer, it can be connected to the mains via the USB adapter (power plug) provided.
