Description

Microtubes 900 is the 900 Watt Darkglass head that integrates the renowned Microtubes distortion system into a bass amplifier.

With increased robustness, improved equalizer, studio compression, impulse response cabinet emulation, and MIDI control, the Microtubes 900 v2 offers all the options a modern professional bassist needs in a compact and elegant format.

Three years ago Darkglass Electronics launched its first amplifier, the Microtubes 900. Its unusual features and design embodied the Darkglass ethos like none of its previous products. It was an uncompromising amplifier, incredibly versatile, and with an unmistakable character. Now, after years of refinement since the Microtubes 900 first saw the light, the Finnish company is proud to announce the next step in its evolution, the Microtubes 900 v2.

- 900 watts of power
- Dual ¼ Speakon jacks
- Dual pre and post XLR output
- Headphone jack with separate volume control

Darkglass Suite

Using the desktop version of Darkglass Suite allows you to select and use any impulse response available in the provided library, as well as upload your own custom impulse responses. Additionally, you can control the amplifier's channel settings for the Super Intelligent footswitch.

Front Panel Features

INPUT
Use this jack to connect your instrument via a standard ¼" mono cable.

PASSIVE/ACTIVE
Use this push button switch to toggle between passive and active modes. If your bass is active, the signal can be hotter and the amp can distort earlier (if you want additional distortion, feel free to use it).

MICROTUBES
This button allows you to activate or deactivate the Microtubes Engine to add natural compression, organic harmonic enhancement, and saturation ranging from mild overdrive to high gain for bass.
The Microtubes Engine operates before the clean section (therefore, in addition to the Tone knob described below, you can use the 6-band active equalizer for further tone shaping).

COMPRESSION
This knob controls the amount of dynamic compression added to the Microtubes Engine. Compensation gain is automatically adjusted. Compression can be deactivated or assigned via the Darkglass Suite.

DRIVE
This knob controls the amount of distortion that the Microtubes Engine can deliver. It ranges from a soft, warm overdrive to a massive, modern distortion sound.
LEVEL
Use this knob to control the output volume of the Microtubes Engine.

BLEND
Use this knob to blend the clean signal and the distortion signal (Microtubes Engine).

TONE
This knob controls the high harmonic content of the Microtubes Engine via a variable low-pass filter: raise it for more attack and definition or lower it for a smoother sound, especially useful if you are already using bright, clean EQ settings or cabinets with tweeters.

B3K/VMT
This push button switch allows you to select two overdrive voicings: B3K mode offers an aggressive, percussive sound, while VMT boosts the mids for a warmer, more neutral character.

GAIN
This knob allows you to adjust the signal volume before the 6-band active equalizer. You can set it low to ensure the cleanest possible operation or higher for a more aggressive growl.
BASS
+-12dB at 80Hz. Use this slider to modify the low-frequency content of the signal.

MIDS
+-12 dB at 250, 500, 1.5, and 3 kHz. These sliders control the mid-range content of the signal.

TREBLE
+-12 dB at 5 kHz. Use this slider to modify the high-frequency content of the signal.

MASTER
Use this knob to control the overall volume of the amplifier.

MUTE
Use this button to mute the amplifier.

Rear Panel Features

SPEAKER OUTPUT
Use this connector to connect the amplifier to your cabinet. This combo Speakon jack allows operation with a Speakon cable or a ¼" speaker cable.
WARNING: do not use an instrument cable with this jack. Using an instrument cable can damage the amplifier.
SEND
Use this output to send the signal to effect pedals.
RETURN
Use this input to receive the signal from effect pedals. The master volume control is located after this input.
GROUND LIFT
Use this control to lift the ground of the XLR DI output. If you experience ground noise in the DI signal, try changing the setting of this control.
DI OUTPUT
Use this connector to send the signal to the console, microphone preamplifier, interface, etc. Both signals are available (Bypass and amplifier signal with cabinet simulation) and are switched by the cabinet selection switch.
USB
The USB connector allows you to use the Darkglass Suite to upload different cabinet impulses or modify different amplifier parameters.
HEADPHONE OUTPUT
Connect your headphones and enjoy impulse-based cabinet emulation.
AUX IN
Use this connector to play music from your laptop, phone, MP3 player, etc. This input is only routed to the headphone output.
CABINET SELECT
Use this switch to choose between 3 different cabinet impulses or the clean DI signal. This selection will define both the XLR signal and the headphone output signal.
FOOTSWITCH
The Intelligent Footswitch is a proprietary, digitally controlled device that allows you to remotely activate and deactivate the Microtubes Engine. You can also hold down the footswitch to mute the amplifier. The distortion button remains operational even with the intelligent footswitch inserted.
- You can use a standard mono instrument cable to connect the amplifier to the footswitch.
- If you want to control the amplifier from the front panel, you must remove the cable from the footswitch jack on the rear panel.
AC SOCKET
Use this connector to power the amplifier. 100 - 230 VAC, 50-60 Hz. Set the voltage selector to the correct position before turning on the amplifier!
AC POWER ON/OFF
Use this switch to turn the amplifier on or off.
