Nord Grand 2 is a new-generation stage piano featuring an 88-key weighted KAWAI Hammer Action Premium keyboard with an extremely realistic feel and a triple sensor for high-resolution dynamic detection. The advanced sound engine is organized into two Layer/Split sections (Piano and Sample/Synth) with Advanced Layer, which allows stacking two sounds from the same section to create complex textures. The Seamless Transition technology also ensures uninterrupted transitions between sounds, while the DSP system offers 6 independent effects for each Layer and a Global Reverb with separate send controls.

The Playing Experience on Grand 2

Nord Grand 2 features a new, well-balanced, responsive, and even more advanced latest generation KAWAI 88-key Hammer Action Premium Keybed. The keybed utilizes a highly accurate and precise triple-sensor hammer motion detection system, allowing the musician greater expressive and dynamic control.

The Piano Section

A particularly important feature in this section is Advanced Layering, the ability to layer two different types of piano sounds, with level control and display via a dedicated Fader and LED Strip. Nord Grand 2 comes with a wide selection of grand, upright, digital, and electric pianos carefully chosen from the exclusive Nord Piano Library. The sounds are created using advanced sampling techniques capable of capturing the nuances and characteristic timbre of the instruments used. String resonance and the distinctive pedal noise are also reproduced, subtle details that elevate the simulation to a higher level. Two new functions have also been implemented in this piano: Dynamic Compressor and Unison.

Performance with Nord Grand 2

Nord Grand 2 is an instrument designed and built for stage performance, with maximum responsiveness in interaction with the musician. The extensive panel has all the necessary controls for live use; every operation such as creating Splits or Layers, activating effects, or transposing can be performed instantly. On Nord Grand 2, up to 7 Split points can be set, indicated by dedicated LEDs above the keyboard. It is also possible to set fluid transitions with adjustable levels between the various Split zones using the Crossfade function. The instrument also operates with Seamless Transition technology, ensuring continuous transitions between sounds without annoying blackouts.

The Synth Section of Nord Grand 2

This section also features Advanced Layering with the ability to use two independent Sample/Synths, plus a significant increase in internal memory (non-volatile), which allows for loading many more sounds. Sample/Synth already comes with a wide variety of sounds from all major instrumental families, sourced from both the Nord Sample Library and other renowned resource producers such as Symphobia and Swing by ProjectSAM. In addition to the two independent Layers, Sample Synth has basic but effective synthesis controls such as: attack, decay/release, dynamic velocity. The harmonic content of each sound can be varied with the parameter: Soft and Bright. A simple and quick method for sound shaping. This sound engine also offers various features such as: Unison, which produces very dense and rich sounds; Tru-Vibrato, which accurately recreates the characteristics of vibrato for many wind or string instruments, with control via the dedicated button, pedal, or Delay; Round Robin, which provides naturalness for repeated or re-struck notes by alternating slightly different samples, thus simulating a real performance. Finally, Mono and Legato modes with Glide (Portamento) and adjustable Rate are also available.

Effects

Nord Grand 2 features a high-quality effects section with 6 independent FX for each Layer. The chain includes 2 modulation effects, a 3-band semi-parametric equalizer, Amp Simulator, compressor, Delay, and Global Reverb, with independent send control for each section. All parameters are directly accessible for quick and immediate sound adjustments.
