GIBSON PICKUP 490R MODERN CLASSIC CHROME

Aggressive-sounding humbucker pickup that offers the tonal characteristics of an original PAF but with a slight boost in upper midrange response. From the mid to late 1960s, a very different type of music emerged from English clubs. It was an interpretation of the blues that had not been heard before, and it was much harder, more rock-oriented, and decidedly louder than anything before it. As such, the players of this new genre demanded more powerful amplifiers with higher output volumes to accommodate their sonic explorations. This led to a call for a more versatile pickup that could split coils via a push/pull knob and prevent microphonic feedback from occurring when volumes were cranked. Gibson answered this call with the introduction of the revolutionary 490T and 490R ("T" for treble and "R" for rhythm) pickups, which retain the traditional characteristics of the original "Patent Applied For" pickups, but with two key modifications. First, a four-conductor wiring scheme allows the pickups to be connected to any push/pull knob, which allows players to split the coils and increase versatility. Gibson also introduced wax potting, which eliminates any air space, minimizing microphonic feedback. The pickup also features an Alnico II magnet, which provides an output of 7.4. Chrome cover, allowing players to split the coils and increase versatility. Gibson also introduced wax potting, which eliminates any air space, minimizing microphonic feedback.
