In 2021, Gibson Custom Shop introduced one of its most ambitious and revolutionary projects since Gibson guitars with "aged" treatment have been produced: the Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab.

Tom Murphy, the aging guru, collaborated with the Gibson Custom Shop to create a groundbreaking new aging department. All "aged" guitars are now crafted with a nitrocellulose finish using a new formula, which allows for even more accurate and realistic aging. The result is truly astonishing and utterly unlike anything previously achieved, including the guitars from the Collectors Choice collection.

Regarding the instrument in question, the Semi-Hollow guitars produced by the Gibson Custom Shop are back in the catalog, and this new Historic Collection is the best ever produced in terms of historical accuracy: this goal was achieved by analyzing, testing, and studying original examples.

The skilled hands of Gibson Custom Shop luthiers have reproduced every minute detail, including the colors, dimensions, and curves of the original instruments that fetch exorbitant prices on the vintage market.

The result is an instrument that offers a true playing experience.

Specifically, the replica of the Gibson Custom Murphy Lab 1961 ES-335 Reissue Ultra Light Aged features an Indian rosewood fretboard with "Pearloid Dot" inlays, a neck with an Authentic '61 Skinny "C" profile, period-correct capacitors, and finally "unpotted" Custom Buckers.

The Murphy Lab's Ultra Light Aged finish treatment, combined with lightly aged hardware, simulates the unique character, feel, and sensations of an original model from the Gibson Golden Era.
