In 2021, Gibson Custom Shop introduces one of its most ambitious and revolutionary projects since the production of "aged" Gibson guitars: the Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab.

Tom Murphy, the aging guru, in collaboration with the Gibson Custom Shop, has created a revolutionary new aging department. All "aged" guitars are now made with a nitrocellulose finish using a new formula, which allows for even more accurate and realistic aging. The result is truly astonishing and far beyond anything previously achieved, including the guitars from the Collectors Choice collection.

Regarding the instrument in question, the Semi-Hollow guitars produced by the Gibson Custom Shop are once again in the catalog, and this new Historic Collection is the best ever produced in terms of historical accuracy: the goal was achieved by analyzing, testing, and studying original examples.

The skilled hands of Gibson Custom Shop luthiers have reproduced every detail, color, dimension, and curve of the original instruments, which reach exorbitant prices in the vintage market.

The result is an instrument that is a true experience to hold and play.

Specifically, the replica of the Gibson Custom Murphy Lab 1959 ES-335 Reissue Ultra Light Aged features an Indian rosewood fretboard with "Pearloid Dot" inlays, a neck with an Authentic '59 Medium "C" profile, "period-correct" capacitors, and finally "unpotted" Custom Buckers.

The Ultra Light Aged finish treatment by Murphy Lab, combined with lightly aged hardware, simulates the unique character, feel, and sensations of an original model from the Gibson Golden Era.
