The Fender® American Vintage II series presents a remarkably accurate re-creation of the revolutionary designs that changed the course of music history. Crafted with historically accurate bodies, necks and hardware, premium finishes, and meticulous attention to tone, with year-specific pickups, each instrument captures the essence of authentic Fender craftsmanship and sound.


When Fender sales director Don Randall requested a more sophisticated, "high-end" bass model, the result was the now-iconic Jazz Bass®. The neck was thinned at the nut, offering a faster and smoother response, and the new sleek body mirrored the asymmetrical profile of the Jazzmaster®. By 1966, the instrument's evolution reached new heights with significant new features.

The American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass features a comfortable Canadian maple neck with an unbeatable "U"-shaped profile, a round-lam rosewood fingerboard (with a concave back) with a 7.25" radius, and vintage-height frets. Characteristic of 1966 production, this J-Bass® is offered with white neck binding, pearloid block inlays, dual volume controls with a master tone, a matching painted headstock, and a 4-ply tortoise pickguard. The 4-saddle threaded bridge, vintage-style "lollipop" tuners, and Pure Vintage '66 Jazz Bass pickups recreate the classic style and powerful sound.
