Description

The Elipse is the modulation pedal from the French company Kernom, equipped with the patented Analog Augmented circuit that allows real-time control of the behavior of internal components. It features the MOOD control, which enables seamless transitions between effects, and MIDI functionality for saving presets and recalling them with an external switcher.

KERNOM ELIPSE OVERVIEW

The Kernom Elipse is a pedal that redefines classic modulation, offering a continuous and seamless transition between analog effects: from soft and enveloping choruses to warm phasers, to "jet"-style flangers and rhythmic tremolos. Like the other pedals from the French company, the Kernom Elipse is equipped with a patented Analog Augmented circuit, which allows digital modification of the behavior of analog components. This pedal combines all the main modulation effects. With the innovative MOOD control, it is possible to continuously switch between analog effects, unlocking new sonic possibilities. From a classic tremolo and a harmonic tremolo, it transitions to an enveloping chorus and a vibrato. The Elipse also includes a tri-chorus for added depth, a "jet"-style flanger, and a deep phaser. Finally, it arrives at a rotary speaker simulation for a vintage touch and the iconic Univibe for psychedelic sounds. The SWIRL knob is the secret weapon of this pedal. With this control, whatever effect you are using, a slow phaser is added, making the sound multidimensional. Pushed to the maximum, this knob enriches the sound with analog drive and harmonics. The SHAPE knob manages the rhythmic variations of the waveforms, and the MIX knob blends the dry and wet signals. The intensity and speed of the modulation are controlled with the DEPTH and SPEED knobs. The SHAPE control modifies the character of the modulation oscillator to achieve a sharper or softer response. The MIDI allows saving up to 128 presets and managing them with a MIDI controller or directly from the DAW. For more immediate use, it is possible to save a preset and recall it directly from the PRESET switch. The Kernom Elipse is a versatile pedal, designed to work best with guitar, bass, synths, vocals, and vintage keyboards. Its input stage was designed with the goal of seamlessly handling both instrument and line signals.

The Elipse is a modulation pedal that groups all the main effects, from chorus to vibrato, from flanger to phaser, from tremolo to vibe. Create your presets and control them via MIDI.

MOOD CONTROL

The MOOD control has already made the French company famous thanks to the Ridge Overdrive and Moho Fuzz pedals. The Elipse also benefits from this innovative control, which allows easy switching between different modulation effects, offering the flexibility to choose between classic sounds or create hybrid and unique sounds. The effects are organized following a specific sonic progression, for a smooth transition from one effect to another.

1. It starts with a tremolo that provides rhythmic pulses.
2. Increasing the tremolo's intensity will transition to a Rotary effect that adds vibrancy to the sound.
3. Turning the knob further, you enter the world of Chorus, bringing depth and warmth to the sound.
4. Beyond the halfway point, the MOOD knob leads to "jet"-style wide flanger sounds, for dramatic sonic textures.
5. The flangers evolve into rich, swirling Phaser sounds, creating movement.
6. With the knob at maximum, you reach Vibe sounds, offering a vintage atmosphere with the iconic Univibe timbre for a psychedelic touch.

SWIRL CONTROL

The Kernom Elipse takes modulation to a new level. The SWIRL control adds a slow phaser to any selected modulation to create a rich, multidimensional effect. When pushed to the maximum, this control activates an analog drive circuit.

SHAPE, MIX, SPEED AND DEPTH CONTROLS

The Kernom Elipse features controls that allow you to best manage your sound.

SHAPE

Adjusts the modulation waveform to obtain different rhythmic variations.
For most effects, holding the knob in the middle produces the typical waveform of the selected effect (a blend of triangular and sinusoidal shapes).
Turning the knob to the left will result in a sharper waveform transition, while turning it to the right will result in a softer one.
The effect is similar to adjusting the pulse width of a square wave, but applied to a sinusoidal shape.
In the Chorus zone, turning the SHAPE knob to the right adds 2 additional oscillators, creating a tri-chorus effect.

MIX

Blends the clean signal with the effected signal, allowing you to transition from a subtle effect to an immersive sound.
Setting the knob to minimum will only result in the dry signal without modulation, regardless of other control settings.
With tremolo, setting the MIX knob to halfway results in a soft, standard tremolo.
Turning the knob to the right intensifies the volume of the modulation, resulting in an interrupted "full wet" tremolo.
In the Chorus range, keeping the MIX at halfway results in a classic analog chorus as the dry and wet signals are equally balanced. Turning the MIX knob to maximum results only in the effected sound for a full vibrato. Moving the knob between these two settings allows experimenting with different chorus and vibrato characters.
For Flanger, Phaser, and Vibe, setting the MIX to halfway provides the standard range for these types of modulation.
Moving the MIX to the right gradually introduces feedback, adding more bite to the sound.

DEPTH

Modifies the intensity of the modulation.

SPEED

Adjusts the rate (speed) of the modulation.

The MOOD control allows for seamless transitions from one modulation effect to another, while the general controls help sculpt and define the sound. The SWIRL knob adds an additional slow phaser and, beyond a certain threshold, also a slight overdrive.

MIDI AND PRESET FOOTSWITCH

Thanks to Analog Morphing Core technology, the Elipse integrates digital control with an analog circuit. MIDI offers up to 128 presets, parameter management via MIDI CC (Control Change), Tap Tempo, and MIDI Clock support.

The Elipse features an internal PRESET function, allowing you to easily save and recall a preset via the dedicated footswitch.
To save a preset, simply adjust the pedal to achieve the desired sound, then press and hold the PRESET footswitch for 2 seconds until the LED starts flashing. Releasing the footswitch will save the preset. To recall the preset, simply press the PRESET footswitch; the dedicated LED will indicate that it is active. To return to the current settings, press the footswitch again, and the LED will turn off.

MIDI TAP TEMPO

Any footswitch on a MIDI controller can be used for the tap tempo function. Simply assign the footswitch to MIDI CC 85. By pressing it twice in time, the Elipse will set the tempo for the modulation rate. Adjusting the SPEED knob will overwrite the tap tempo setting.

MIDI CLOCK

The Elipse supports the MIDI clock standard from any DAW or hardware capable of sending MIDI clock messages. This function allows direct modification of the modulation rate via DAW or MIDI hardware.

MIDI TIME DIVISION

Using MIDI CC 86, different time divisions can be selected for the modulation rate. The rate ratio is adjusted independently of the SPEED knob, Tap Tempo, or MIDI Clock settings, offering maximum flexibility over your sound.

USING THE KERNOM ELIPSE WITH AN EXPRESSION PEDAL

By connecting an expression pedal to the Elipse, you can seamlessly transition from one sound to another. By setting one sound with the expression pedal closed and another with the pedal open, you can create a transition between the two effects, adding expressiveness and depth to the sound. The expression pedal can also be used to control the rotary speed.
