This pedal captures the dirty and incisive sound of his guitar on the album, achieved by routing the signal through two heavily modified amplifiers.

OVERVIEW OF THE MXR DD30 DOOKIE DRIVE 30TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION

Billie Joe Armstrong's guitar sound on Dookie, Green Day's groundbreaking 1994 album, was dirty and punchy, with the ideal amount of articulation to express the musicality of his fast and melodic riffs. To achieve this sound, he routed his signal through two heavily modified amplifiers, one with high gain and the other with well-defined mids. When it came time to mix the record, the band blended the two signals in different ratios to suit the mood of each song. The MXR Dookie Drive captures the sonics of these amplifiers in a single pedal. The MXR team borrowed his amplifiers and analyzed all their sonic characteristics. After various analyses and A/B tests, MXR engineers rebuilt the amplifiers from scratch in pedal circuit form and housed them in a single enclosure, creating the Dookie Drive. As Green Day did in the studio, the BLEND control allows you to mix the high gain and crunch sections. The SCOOP button cuts the mids, while the other controls adjust volume, gain, and tone.
