AES/EBU is a standard format for digital audio, used to interface different devices. Officially named AES3, it takes its common name from the fact that it was jointly developed by the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The first introduction of this format dates back to the early 90s, with subsequent revisions until the early 2000s. The standard also defines different types of connectors used by equipment. A related standard, called S/PDIF, was developed as a consumer version of AES/EBU, with more common type connectors, and is now part of the overall AES3 specifications.
