Description

BOSS DM-101 DELAY MACHINE

The ultimate analog delay pedal, created with BOSS's most advanced technologies

All-analog BBD audio circuit, under precise digital CPU control

Analog Delay for the 21st Century

Analog delays based on BBD (bucket-brigade device) microchips emerged in the 1970s as compact and affordable alternatives to the standard tape delays of the time. Their warm, saturated, and highly musical sound established a distinctive delay style that continues to be a favorite of many musicians and sound engineers. Thanks to modern CPU-based control, the DM-101 supercharges this classic effect with even more powerful capabilities for today's musicians.

Next-Level Performance, Thanks to BOSS Innovations

The DM-101 takes analog delay where it has never gone before, providing access to more defined sounds and longer delay times, alongside traditional tones. To achieve this versatility, we have used eight 2048-stage BBDs instead of the more common 4096-stage BBD. By carefully optimizing the behavior of these smaller BBDs, with CPU control, we can achieve a much wider range of sounds while retaining all the analog characteristics that musicians love about their favorite BBD pedals.

Vintage and Modern Sounds

The DM-101 ranges from gritty vintage echoes to modern analog delay tones with perfectly defined high frequencies. Multiple internal circuit elements are selected to define each of the 12 modes, including the number of active BBDs and their connection order, low-pass filter settings, and clock speed. By turning the Variation knob, you adjust parameters exclusive to different modes. And you can always push the delays to a saturation-rich self-oscillation by turning up the Intensity knob.

Stereo Delay with True Analog Warmth

One of the biggest advantages of the DM-101's CPU control is the ability to create sophisticated stereo sounds, not available with other BBD-based analog delays. For example, Pan mode routes each BBD and its feedback loop to alternative positions across the stereo sound field, while Dual Mod shifts the modulation phase of each output to generate a wide and spacious delay effect. Six of the 12 modes support stereo operation, offering everything from shorter, reverb-like sounds to extended modulated delays, to rhythmic delay patterns for intense rhythmic effects.

Complete Creative Control

The DM-101 offers all the creative advantages you would expect from an advanced delay pedal. Tap tempo and note subdivisions are available in most modes, and there's also a Carryover function to maintain repeats when the effect is bypassed. You can save and recall favorite configurations with four internal memories and connect up to two footswitches or an expression pedal for extended real-time control. MIDI input and output go even further, offering remote access to 127 user memories, MIDI sync, and more. Audio outputs are set by default to work by mixing signals but can be easily reconfigured for wet/dry setups and parallel wet-only configurations.

DM-101: Delay Modes

• Classic—The traditional warm analog delay sound extended to a maximum delay time of 1200 ms. Adjust modulation behavior by cycling through triangular, sinusoidal, and more complex waveforms with the Variation knob.

• Vintage—Retro analog delay sound, inspired by the iconic BOSS DM-2 Delay pedal introduced in 1981. Adjust modulation behavior by cycling through triangular, sinusoidal, and more complex waveforms with the Variation knob.

• Modern—Unique definition delay sound, with a characteristic high-frequency range and a delay time of up to 840 ms. Adjust modulation behavior by cycling through triangular, sinusoidal, and more complex waveforms with the Variation knob.

• Multi-Head—Emulates a multi-head tape delay, giving a unique BBD analog sound character. Use the Variation knob to cycle through 10 different head combinations.

• Non-Linear—A unique effect that produces short, consecutive delays (35–190 ms) that gradually increase in volume. The Variation knob controls the delay times after the initial delay.

• Ambience—Simulates a small space. Change the size and early reflections with the Variation knob.

• Reflect—A stereo delay sound that produces a reverb-style effect. Adjust the pre-delay with the Variation knob.

• Doubling+Delay—A stereo effect that combines a doubled sound with a longer delay. Use the Variation knob to balance the two sounds across the stereo output.

• Wide—A stereo delay with offset left and right delay times to create an expanded sound. Use the Variation knob to adjust the difference between the delay sounds.

• Dual Mod—A stereo delay with different modulation phase settings for the left and right outputs. Use the Variation knob to adjust the intensity of the phase (the phase is completely inverted at the maximum setting).

• Pan—A stereo delay with different delay times distributed across the soundstage. Use the Variation knob to adjust the delay times.

• Pattern—Stereo delay with different rhythmic patterns. Use the Variation knob to choose from 10 different available patterns.
