The new series of MIDI pad controllers from AKAI Professional has been designed to meet the needs of DJs, producers, and musicians in general, as well as VJs and light jockeys. Based on user feedback, AKAI Pro has designed these models to be compatible with PC, Mac, and iOS devices. This new line features an optimized, thinner, and lighter design, following the trend already introduced by the renewed APC series. This device comes with 16 velocity- and aftertouch-sensitive pads, ideal for demanding finger drumming enthusiasts. The MPD218 has red backlighting and, in addition to the USB connection, is equipped with MIDI IN and OUT ports on mini-jack connectors, to which the included DIN adapters can be connected for use with traditional hardware instruments such as analog synths, expanders, keyboards, grooveboxes, samplers, etc. The array of physical controls, faders, and/or rotary potentiometers is extensive, and all are configurable across multiple banks to allow control of numerous parameters within the software being used. MPC-derived functions are also available, such as Note Repeat with programmable swing and Full Level, which cancels velocity response when needed. Programming the MIDI messages sent by each physical control (pads, potentiometers, faders, etc.) is possible via dedicated editor software.
