The basses are made with a special red protective varnish, which ensures less noise under the fingers, no metal allergies, and no oxidation, unlike common silver-plated copper strings. The sound of these strings is decidedly bright, clean, and clear to the touch, with great acoustic power. Unlike Fluorocarbon strings, these strings definitely have excellent vibrato and remarkable tonal variation when played near the bridge and then towards the soundhole. Laboratory measurements have shown that Sugar strings have a power in Joules and sustain 18% and 24% higher respectively than Fluorocarbon strings. Thanks to the new treatment, Aquila Corde has managed to eliminate 90% of cases with the "squeak" effect present in previous versions. These strings also contain the typical sweetness and singability of gut, but at the same time the clarity and prompt attack typical of Fluorocarbon.
