The bass strings are made with a special red protective coating, which ensures less noise under the fingers, absence of metal allergies, and no oxidation, unlike common silver-plated copper strings. The sound of these strings is decidedly bright, clean, and crisp to the touch, with great acoustic power. Unlike Fluorocarbon strings, these strings definitely possess excellent vibrato and significant tonal variation when played near the bridge and then towards the soundhole. Laboratory measurements have shown that Sugar strings have 18% more power in Joules and 24% more sustain than Fluorocarbon strings, respectively. Thanks to the new treatment, Aquila Corde has managed to eliminate 90% of cases with the "squeak" effect present in previous versions. These strings also contain the typical sweetness and singability of gut, but at the same time the clarity and attack readiness typical of Fluorocarbon.
