The ISS (Intelligent Signal Sensing) function reduces the system's power consumption to less than 0.5 watts by automatically putting the monitor in standby when no signal is detected at the inputs for a certain period of time. As soon as an audio signal is detected at the input, the system is instantly reactivated. This ISS function is compatible with new EU regulations and the ErP 2013 Directive that regulates the power consumption of electronic equipment. The reflex port has been designed to provide clear and defined bass, without distortion, compression, or interference. The combination of the Genelec Directivity Control Waveguide™ (DCW™) control, rounded corners, and the subtle curvature of both the front and the cabinet, MDE™ (Minimum Diffraction Enclosure™), results in a surprisingly flat frequency response both on and off-axis. Another great advantage is extremely precise and detailed imaging and minimal listening fatigue. A sophisticated crossover filter system processes the signal sent to the amplifiers: each very low-distortion loudspeaker has its own dedicated amplifier. The 8040B comes standard with magnetic shielding, overload protection circuitry, and a versatile environmental correction system. The holes on the back allow for correct and secure wall mounting. Each 8040B is equipped with an Iso-Pod™ (Isolation Positioner\/Decoupler™), a stand that eliminates any sound coloration by decoupling the monitor from the surface it is placed on. The Iso-Pod™ also allows the monitor to be angled to perfectly point it on-axis towards the listener.
